(WAR)RIOR

(WAR)RIOR is a curated selection of artwork that examines the effects of war on people who have endured it first hand.

The works in this exhibition were created by artists who have served in the Armed Forces or by artists who have chosen to honor or explore the experiences of service members. Each piece represents the effects of battle, be they mental or physical, on those who survive it.

Viewers may see literal interpretations of events or more abstract and symbolic pieces within this collection, which was created by a diverse population of artists whose contributions reflect their individual backgrounds, forms of expression, and artistic mediums.

This series invites viewers to consider how the artists’ range of circumstances, personalities, and artistic expression find common ground and how their shared experiences of war nonetheless remain intensely personal. Viewers are also encouraged to reflect on how the external impacts of service and warfare can both reflect and yet obscure the internal effects of battle.

The exhibition is on view through November 2, on the second floor of Spring Street Studios.
