A line can change direction, run parallel, or intersect other lines. It can repeat to form a pattern or exhibit distinct qualities from other lines. In a similar manner, shapes and colors can be used to alter a space. Cameron Sands’s paintings and mixed media works explore the idea of transformation. In Step Variations, Sands explores this universal theme of transformation by presenting works that show literal and symbolic change. From a structure made up of basic visual elements, each work evolves through alterations, layering, and curious observation. Cameron sees his practice as a means to celebrate possibility. He wishes to create a kind of enhanced experience for the viewer and views the act of making quiet changes within his compositions to be metaphors of hope.
