Community: Artists of Spring Street

The artists of Spring Street Studios present another thoughtful exhibition, highlighting the breadth and depth of our artist community. Michael Lesher, Spring Street artist and organizer of this exhibition writes:

"Community is a network of relationships and environments that shapes who we are, how we grow, and how we connect with the world. It begins in the intimate spaces where we love, learn, and grow—within families, friendships, and familiar places—but stretches far beyond, touching the broader currents of society that ripple through our lives.

At its core, community is where we experience belonging, support, and shared responsibility. It influences how we learn, develop values, and navigate challenges. Beyond our immediate circles, larger systems—like workplaces, government, and societal norms—affect the opportunities and resources available. Community holds us close, giving us a place to belong, yet it also challenges us, influencing our choices, our opportunities, and our dreams.

Like a constantly shifting canvas, community evolves with time, reflecting changes in the world around us—new ideas, shifting values, and the pulse of progress. It is at once personal and universal, intimate and expansive, a shared space where the individual and collective meet, grow, and transform.

In this sense, community is a living system that shapes individual identity while reflecting the collective experiences, challenges, and aspirations of its members. It is where we find connection, belonging, and purpose, and where individual lives intersect with larger societal forces."

The exhibition will be on view in the upstairs East Corridor at Spring Street Studios through February 15, 2025.
