Sawyer Yards is proud to announce a solo exhibition of paintings by Silos artist Sheila Leatherwood. The People We Pass Through is on view in the Bay 300 Gallery of the Silos at Sawyer Yards from May 2 - 31.

In a single day, how many people do you encounter? At the grocery store, the park, the gas station, the elevator, the doctors office? - They’re everywhere. Some people become a fading memory, while others become a part of who we are. Even a fleeting encounter can leave a mark on us.

Sheila Leatherwoods’s passion is making faces. She uses brightly colored paint and collage to bring the people we pass through to life. He’s portraits are expressive and tell their stories in an intuitive way.

After graduating from Texas A & M University with a degree in education, Sheila taught the little ones  for several years. After raising her children, she began the second half of her life playing with paint and cardboard. She currently lives in Houston, and has been a student at Gassell School of Art since 2019. She enjoys working in her home studio as well as her studio at the Silos in Sawyer Yards.
