Oluseyi Soyege: Fundamental Livelihood

Sawyer Yards is pleased to announce Fundamental Livelihood, a solo exhibition of new and recent works by Silos artist, Olusey Soyege. The series explores portraiture, and representations of people across the spectrum of labor. Executed through painstakingly careful assemblage, and utilizing very physical materials including fabric, wood, nails, and thread, Soyege's works exude richness and presence, but also an aspect of humility.

Oluseyi Soyege, a sculptor and a painter, is a prolific artist whose numerous and varied works speak to incredibly multi-level contemporaneous issues. A graduate of Yaba College of Technology Lagos Nigeria, he has been a practicing artist for decades, and has a series of successful exhibitions behind him. Focusing on the sensual nature of art, Soyege is constantly evolving in his application of color, texture, and symbolism. Persistent in his eternal desire to unpack the inherent, the mundane, and the esoteric evocations of these conceptional outlets, Soyege has produced a body of works that exist at the convergence of both the 2D and 3D realms. His works can be found at hotels (interior and exterior), schools, cinemas, and at individual homes in Africa, the UK, and the U.S. He has works housed in art institutions such as the Museum of Art Lagos, Nigeria.

Join the artist for a reception from 5-8pm on Saturday, September 14.
