Statement from the Curator:
Swiss moral philosopher, Henri Frederic Amiel, once said: “Time and space are fragments of the infinite for the use of finite creatures.”
As finite creatures we are limited in what we can do within the confines of time and space. But when artists step into their studios they are able to bend and stop time at their will through their art. They can travel back in time to their own memories and freeze those moments and emotions into something tangible. They are able to recreate what time represents to them in all of its complexity.
The artists in this exhibition have unique ways of expressing time in their works. Time escapes us every day, and when we create art, time can become a bit more understandable and less frightening. This process allows us to reflect on what time is or what time was.
